Cell doubling time calculator

Calculate doubling time from two cell counts, for mammalian cells or bacteria.

Doubling time
–
–
Td = t × ln 2 ÷ ln(N ÷ N₀)

How it works

During exponential growth, cell number doubles at a constant rate. The number of doublings is log₂(N ÷ N₀), and the elapsed time divided by that number gives the doubling time. Counts taken during lag or stationary phase will overestimate it.
